Trail Runs with Bluebonnets near Austin
Spring is here! Here in the hill country we have about 6 good weeks of bluebonnet coverage, so we don’t take it for granted! Expect to see most flowers popping up between March 20-late April.
Since we are into trails, we compiled a list of parks and trail routes that typically have a good bluebonnet showing in. When possible we will also designate which mileage we see the most bluebonnets. Each route links to our route page and also includes a Strava GPS link
1) Deception Trail off Brushy Creek - The best flowers will be seen early on as soon as you enter the Deception trails off Brushy Creek path. You can also see bluebonnets throughout this entire route.
2) FireHouse Trail off South Mopac - This trail offers bluebonnets and tons of other wildflowers. You’ll see flowers throughout this entire route. You can find the significant bluebonnet sections later on though around miles 5-7 of the route.
3) Bull Creek Trail - The best spot for bluebonnets on this route is near the retention pond around mile 3.5. Some bluebonnet seasons will have the entire side of the hill is covered in blue.
4) Slaughter Creek - this is a great beginner friendly 3.5 or 5 mile trail. The 3.5 mile route will have the most bluebonnets on it as the 1.5 mile add on portion is more shaded.
5) Barton Creek Greenbelt - Just off the 360 access entrance you can get lost in sections of bluebonnets. This route is geared towards the best flower sections. However you can also typically see good bluebonnets on the trail near Moonshadow access.
Runner up Austin bluebonnets on the trail - Turkey Creek in West Austin & Onion Creek in South Austin
