3 Tips for Training with Increased Uncertainty

Uncertainty brings a whole different hurdle into your training. As if preparing for a marathon or ultra trail race wasn’t already hard enough . During times of struggle and uncertainty bring new opportunities to grow and improve. Here are a few tips to consider if you are struggling to find motivation during this time when traditional races have mostly come to a halt.

1) Life is full of uncertainty as much as we try to push for security- so rework your mind to focus on what you can improve and control - examples: focus on increased mileage or try a virtual race, or add in more strength work

2) Adjust or create new patterns - your schedule changes and your habits change. It takes a few times of repeating activities and intention to change your habits, but you can do it!

3) Inject short term goals with solid rewards. - Look at other goals besides races. Find new routes or new trails, consider running as a fundraiser, or try focusing on a shorter race you can easily do from home like the 1 mile or 5k.

There is no perfect way to train, but remember your mindset and how you react to your situation is all a decision. There are plenty of people struggling with the Covid 19 times. If you are healthy and able, you can still have empathy for other while maintaining your own well being. How do you want to remember yourself during the Covid quaraunteen?
